How is STEM Low Carbon Education Cultivate Students’ Sustainability Consciousness?

Abstract

Sustainability consciousness is currently an important aspect that students should have, especially prospective teachers as agents of change to prevent climate change from the education perspective. Education plays an important role in the realization of climate change through STEM low carbon education learning program. This research aims to investigate how does students’ sustainability consciousness through STEM low carbon education learning program. The method used is quantitative experimental method with quasi experiment design. Data was collected through sustainability consciousness for low carbon education questionnaire and interview. Data was analyzed by RASCH model for stacking and racking analysis. The questionnaire is given as pre-test and post-test. This result shows that students’ sustainability consciousness in experimental class was outperformed than control class, because experimental class learn by using STEM low carbon education which all pertaining low carbon concept were explicitly taught. It could be concluded that STEM low carbon education learning could cultivate students’ sustainable consciousness, especially prospective teachers.
