Abstract

Collaboration skills are one of the 21st century skills that are important for everyone. Game-based learning media has been proven to motivate and engage students in the context of learning and developing collaboration skills. This research aimed to develop and implement educational role-playing media for learning biology, specifically the virus concept, to enhance students' collaboration skills. The role-playing game used is Virulent Attack, adapted from the Werewolf game. The research method used is mixed methods. We implemented those learning media with 29 students of 10th grade senior high school. When applying the developed learning media, we proved that students' collaboration skills increased by comparing the pretest and post-test results from observers and students, which showed a significance value of 0.000, smaller than the t-table value of 0.05. Interviews conducted with several student representatives showed positive results, with students expressing that their experiences and participation in learning provided them with a valuable and enjoyable learning experience. The results of this study not only underscore the potential of role-playing in an educational setting, but also highlight the practical implications of incorporating this kind of media into the biology curricula to enhance students' understanding and participation in learning.
